Santiago de Cuba, Jan 12 .- Cuban President Raul Castro presided over the military ceremony of transferring and burying the remains of 33 combatants killed during the war of liberation or deceased after the triumph of the Revolution in 1959.

The ceremony took place in the Mausoleum of the III Frente Mario Muñoz, where wreaths were laid by Raúl Castro, the Cuban people and the relatives. The first vice president of the island, Miguel Diaz-Canel, gave the main speech of the act, through which he called to multiply the tribute with creative and innovative daily work.

‘The mortal remains of these immortal patriots, some fallen in the insurrectionary struggle and others who died after the revolutionary triumph, return to remain with their legendary leader, the commander of the revolution Juan Almeida Bosque (…),’ he said.

The first Cuban vice president stated that the remains correspond to three commanders, seven captains, five first lieutenants, one lieutenant and 17 soldiers, among them three heroines.

The Third Front Mario Muñoz of the Rebel Army was created in March 1958 during the war against Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship in the province of Santiago de Cuba.

By order of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, Almeida Bosque founded and directed the guerrilla group based on military operations in the mountainous area of the eastern territory. (Prensa Latina)
