Geneva, Dec 1.- The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has advocated at the UN headquarters in Geneva for a just and lasting solution for the cause of Palestine and for working to achieve peace in the Middle East, diplomatic sources informed.

02On occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Venezuelan ambassador to this United Nations headquarters here, Jorge Valero, delivered a speech on behalf of NAM, in which he reiterated the ‘clear and unequivocal position that recognizes the inalienable rights of this people, and rejects Israel’s illegal occupation of the Arab territories.’

Today ‘is a solemn occasion to renew our commitment in search for a just and lasting solution for the Palestinian cause and achieve peace in the Middle East,’ he said.

Valero expressed his condemnation to ‘the massive, flagrant and systematic violation of human rights and international humanitarian law by the Occupying Power, Israel.’

The ambassador expressed concern that Tel Aviv ‘continues in flagrant impunity with its aggressions and illegal practices against the Palestinian people, despite the absolute prohibition of these actions in accordance with the International Law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention.’

He also considered necessary to take into account the impact of ‘these illegal measures’ on the Palestinian people, especially their women, children and other vulnerable people, such as Palestinian refugees.

The event in solidarity with Palestine was chaired by. Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Michael Moller Representatives of the Arab League, the African Union and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, among other organizations, participated during the session.(Prensa Latina)
