Cuban Health Ministry for a May 1st celebration at home

Havana, May 1st.- In view of the expansion of Covid-19, the Public Health Ministry called to celebrate May 1st in a responsible manner and from home, under the slogan: ‘For Cuba: united we will win.’

At the daily press briefing on the situation of the country in relation to the SARS-Cov virus, Francisco Duran, the director of the Ministry’s Epidemiology Department, called for the celebration of the International Workers’ Day ‘at the level of what we have always done.’

This time, he added, the celebration should be from home, with the family, on the balconies, singing the National Anthem, but without going out into the streets to respect the measures aimed at preventing the spread of the disease.

Following the Covid-19, the usual village parades that celebrate the date throughout the country had to be suspended this year, but from the homes people will join in a celebration that is a national tradition.

Yesterday, various international organizations called for a May Day celebration in defense of a dignified life, despite the conditions of isolation imposed by the pandemic.

The document, to which organizations such as the International People’s Assembly, the São Paulo Forum and the Women’s International Democratic Federation, among others, have joined, recognizes that although they will not take to the streets on that date, the workers’ struggle continues.(Prensa Latina)
