Summer Mood at Camagüey’s Main Theatre

Summer Mood at Camagüey’s Main Theatre Camagüey, Aug 15.-  For the second year running, the comedy group Komotú, from Guantanamo, comes to Camaguey to kick off the second Humour Season in the Principal theatre that should last until early September.

The group hailing from Cuba’s easternmost province has won the applause and sympathy of the local audience because of the quality of their plays, which are both reflexive and hilarious, and the witty ideas of La Llave (the Key), a well-known humoristic character in the island nation created by actor Miguel Moreno.

Komotú’s presentations have been scheduled for the week end with the exception of the following Saturday when singer Waldo Mendoza will step onto the stage in concert.

Other Cuban comedy groups like Carcajada, of Villa Clara, duet Cari Care, of Holguin, are also invited for the current season of humour that is being sponsored by the local Humour Promoting Centre and the Provincial Council of  Performing Arts in Camagüey province.

“This has been a very awaited season because almost everyone enjoys humour on the stage, since it implies a close encounter between actors and audience” said Yudaisi Andrés García, director of the city’s main theatre.

Apart from the intense summer schedule, the theatre is gearing up for the 14th  National Theater Festival to take place September 8-15 in Camagüey.

The Principal theatre was opened to the public in 1850, and it boasts a rich but chequered history.  Without a doubt it is one of the most important cultural spaces within the territory.   (Radio Cadena Agramonte )
