Lula Begins Larynx Tumor Treatment

Brasilia, Oct 31. -Former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (2003-2010) on Monday begins, at the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in Sao Paulo, a treatment for a larynx tumor detected this weekend in routine examinations.Lula, who celebrated his 66th birthday on Oct. 27, arrived on Friday at that medical center after suffering a sore throat and hoarseness. Examinations by magnetic resonance and neck tomography diagnosed a two-or-three-centimeter tumor.

After being informed of the illness on Saturday, a tumor sample was taken from him to be analyzed, and the final treatment to follow will depend on its biopsy results.

Many figures worldwide as well as national authorities have expressed their solidarity with Lula, and have wished him a satisfactory recovery. (Prensa Latina)
