Pioneers Safeguard the Teaching of Cuban HistoryHavana, Apr 4. -The Jose Marti Pioneer Organization of Cuban schoolchildren celebrates its 50th anniversary on Monday as it ends its fifth national congress with the goals of improving its work and deepening knowledge of national history.

April 4 is also the 49th anniversary of the founding of the Union of Young Communists.

The 300 delegates meeting at Pioneer Palace in Havana focused on the duty of the new generations in defending the conquests of the Revolution.

Meeting in four commissions, the delegates discussed elementary and secondary education, and how study is the main duty and function of the Pioneers organization. They also focused on emphasizing Cuban history, vocational training and career guidance for pioneers (schoolchildren).

The children paid a visit to the Jose Marti Memorial, where the book Fidel y los Pioneros (Fidel and the Pioneers) was launched, a compilation of the Cuban leaderâ�Ös speeches devoted to schoolchildren and their organization.

The congress is also dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the declaration of the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution and the Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs) victory. (Prensa Latina)
