S Africa Boosts Solidarity Movement with Cuba Johannesburg, Feb 2. – The new affiliate of the Friends of Cuba Society (FOCUS) in the central South African province of Free State was presented in a special event, diplomatic organizations reported Tuesday.

FOCUS national general secretary Chris Mathlako, general assistant secretary Clever Banganayi, and officials from the Cuban embassy attended the event.

Cuban Ambassador Angel Villa stressed the importance of the growing Cuba solidarity movement worldwide, and particularly in South Africa.

The official also stated the need to boost actions demanding freedom for the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.

Their real crime was monitoring subversive activities by anti-Cuban groups based in that northern country.

He also talked of the intensive process underway in Cuba to update its economic model, led by the Party.

With the new FOCUS branch in Free State, that organization is now present in nine South African provinces.(Prensa Latina)
