CARICOM to Present Haiti Reconstruction PlansPort-au-Prince, Jan 4. -Leaders of the Caribbean Community will promote mechanisms to speed up Haiti´s reconstruction in 2011.

The (CARICOM) delegation will meet in Port-au-Prince from January 5 to 7 and will focus mainly on improving Haitian construction capacity.

Previously, an interim commission drew up an agenda to for a number of projects, including a housing program that will benefit nearly 400,000 of the 1.3 million people that were left homeless due to the earthquake.

The plan includes the removal of 40 percent of rubble, the construction of educational centers in places where there are no public schools, and the equipment of 3,000 schools.

With regards to the energy sector, the commission expects to expand the electricity service to cover nearly 10,000 Haitians in rural zones. (Prensa Latina)
