Cuba Highlights Development of Biotechnological Industry

Havana, Oct 22. -Cuban Scientist Luis Herrera highlighted on Wednesday the biotechnological development especially in the application of the Heberprot-B, a medicine that changed the therapy for patients with diabetic foot ulcers.

Biotechnology Havana 2010 opened its doors with the participation of 300 specialists from more than 30 countries. Delegates from Venezuela, Mexico, Argentina and the Dominican Republic will represent Latin America.

A seminar focusing on the integral attention to patients who suffer from diabetic foot ulcers, was held by the Heberprot-B project leader Jorge Berlanda.

Nearly 18,000 patients have received benefits from this treatment, which has been validated in Argentina, Algeria, Venezuela and Uruguay, and also can be used in Mexico, the United States, South Africa, Australia, India and some European countries such as Russia and Ukraine. (Prensa Latina)
