Cuba Gives Final Touches to PollsHavana, Apr 19. -Cuban authorities and voters has started on Monday the last week prior to the April 25 elections, to precise details so this democratic exercise would carry out successfully. Nearly 8.40 million Cubans will elect that date 15,093 candidates to the Municipal Assemblies of the People's Power (local governments).

On May 2, there will be a second round in those constituencies where none of those nominated win over 50 percent of valid votes.

According to official information, the 75 percent of that figure are men and women between 16 and 50 years old, an indicator higher to 53.9 percent representing the group in the Cuban population.

After the April 18 dynamic test, the Caribbean island is ready to develop the election of those delegates, who will be in their posts for a period of two and a half years, according to the current electoral law.

In accordance of Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, this electoral process must be carried out rigorously, methodically and with a critical and creative spirit as President Raul Castro has called for.(Prensa Latina)
