International Weightlifting Tournament Opens in Cuba

International Weightlifting Tournament Opens in CubaHavana, Mar 15. -The main weightlifters of Cuba in the male and female categories and competitors from 10 Latin American countries will compete at the 30th International Manuel Suarez in Memoriam Tournament.

The event will last till March 18 in Cardenas, Matanzas, with the participation of the teams from Aruba, Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Chile, Nicaragua, Peru, and Venezuela, besides representatives from the Mexican states of Quintana Roo and Nuevo Leon.

Cuban world medallist and 6th place in the Olympic Games, Sergio Alvarez, will compete in the 56 kg category.

The Cuban male team includes Yoelmis Hernandez (85 kg), Carlos Hernandez (56 kg), Bredni Roque (69 kg), Javier Vanegas (94 kg) and Sertanis Terán (+105 kg).

The female team will be represented by Mercedes Simón (58 kg), Idalmis Rivero (69 kg) and Odeysis Peregrín (75 kg).

Venezuela is coming with seven women and five men. Ecuador, with six ladies and four men, and Mexico entered 8 women in the tournament. (Prensa Latina)
