Drug Consumption Increases in MexicoMexico, Mar 14. -The consumption of cocaine soured in Mexico in the last six years and that of marihuana by 50 percent, Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova Villalobos reported.

Villalobos said that despite the mentioned figures, Mexico is not one of the worldâ�Ös biggest drug-consuming countries, while the federal government has allocated some 166 billion USD to prevent addictions.

A report by the Secretariat of Public Security states that the wholesale market of illicit drugs in Mexico is 431.6 million USD for drug trafficking, while drug consumers spend about 431 million USD per year.

According to the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use, about 4.8 million people consume marihuana and cocaine, in a population between 12 and 65 years old. Men are more prone to this addition.
