Hugo Chavez: Latin America and the Caribbean Spark Hope to the World

Hugo Chavez: Latin America and the Caribbean Spark Hope to the WorldHavana, Cuba, Jul 10.- Venezuela´s Hugo Chavez said on Monday that Latin America and the Caribbean unfold as a platform of peace and respect, and as an alternative to the capitalist model.

“We live in a continent with a cultural, social, political and economic revolution underway; Latin America and the Caribbean are unfolding as the hope of this world,” Chavez said during a press conference as part of his electoral campaign for upcoming presidential elections, Telesur TV reported.

The Venezuelan president referred to regional blocs and organizations like the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our Americas (ALBA), the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which have been set up to face the problems pending on the people of the region, he said, and noted “we are an option quite different from the capitalist model.”

Chavez said that the world is undergoing destabilization and he pointed to Syria adding that US State Secretary Hillary Clinton threatened Russia and China for not abiding by US rules.

“Washington should look at the problems pending on US society; however they prefer to impose themselves like they did in Libya, and they now want to do the same in Syria, as they also threaten Iran,” he stressed.

In this regard, Chavez recalled statements by Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro warning of a nuclear war, and he noted such a catastrophe would wipe out human life from the planet; however the (US) empire is playing with this as if they did not care. (Rasio Cadena Agramonte).
