Havana Biennial Characterized by Fine Art

Havana, Jun 11 . – Audacity, talent, innovation and sensitivity to different styles and artistic proposals characterized the XI Biennial of Havana, the visual arts event which bids farewell to the public today, leaving a lingering impression of fine art and aesthetic taste.

Nearly 180 artists from 43 countries arrived in this capital to show their works in galleries, parks, facilities and other open spaces, in keeping with a social point of view, a theme that presided over the largest event of its kind on the island on a biannual basis.

Messages of peace, love, tolerance and harmony between man and nature, among many others, were omnipresent at an event that as the Cuban painter Alexis Leyva (Kcho) said, reaffirmed the promise of art, while highlighting the wealth and values of the so-called Third World.

In this regard, pieces by the South African Steve Cohen, the Moroccan Batoul Shimi and the Palestinian Rafat Asad, just to mention a few of those involved, were outstanding.

The interactive dialogue also highlighted unexpected surprises, as well as the inherent risk and adventure in the creative process.

Technology, a tool that the Havana Biennial, unlike other major events of its kind in the world, deserves a special mention.

It occupied a very special place at the Ibero-American Cultural Center, where 18 artists and 15 works offered various views on robotics and information technology associated with art, through the "Open score" collective sample.(Prensa Latina)
