Tropical Storm in Gulf of Mexico

Tropical Storm in Gulf of Mexico Havana, Jul 28. – Tropical Storm Don continued moving into the Gulf of Mexico, the Cuban Meteorological Institut (INSMET) reported Thursday.  At 06:00 local time, the storm was located at latitude 23.1 north, longitude 88.8 west, around 1,017 kilometers (632 miles) from Corpus Christi and 924 kilometers (574 miles) from Brownsville, both in the U.S. state of Texas.

Don had maximum sustained winds of near 65 kph, (40 mph) with higher gusts and a minimum pressure of 1,000 hP and was moving in a west-northwest direction at about 17 kph (6.5 mph).

INSMET said that during next 12 to 24 hours, the storm will continue along a similar path and with a simlar speed, and some strengthening is forecast during its pass through the south-central part of the Gulf of Mexico.

Don is the fourth storm of the current hurricane season, which began on June 1 and ends November 30.(Prensa Latina)
