Venezuela Leads the ALBA Games

Barquisimeto, Venezuela, Jul 21 . -The Venezuelan delegation on Thursday comfortably leads the medal standing by countries after four days of competition of the 4th ALBA Games.Venezuelans total 112 medals, including 45 golds, most of them won in the swimming tournament in which with just one day to go they have lost only two titles, both won by Ecuadorian Camila Isabel Najera the 200m and 400m individual medley.

Venezuela also performed well in target archery, specially in the compound bow competitions winning all the titles at stake.

At the recurved bow, however, Chilean Denisse Van Lamoen won 5 golds, being the most remarkable athlete of the 2011 ALBA Games so far.

Cuba follows the host country in the medal standing with a total of 44, including 21 golds in weightlifting, paddling, Greco-Roman wrestling, target archery, and the men's table tennis.

Venezuela and Cuba are followed by Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador, respectively. Bolivia may join the medal-winning nations in the fourth date of competition thanks to its men and women racquetball teams that are considered favorite to the finals.(Prensa Latina)
