Cuban Shooting Athlete Classifies for 2012 OlympicsHavana, Nov. 23. -Cuban Eglys Cruz won the gold medal in the women's shooting competition at the 10th Championshiop of the Americas competition in Rio de Janeiro, qualifying her to compete in the 2012 Olympics.

Cruz, bronze medal winner in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 50m Rifle (3×20 shots) with a national recod of 687.6, now won the 10m air rifle competition with 496.8, the same specialty she won at the 2007 Pan-American Games.

According to the weekly website Jit, the Cuban shooter was followed by Mexican Rosa Peña (494.9), and American Amy Sowash (494.7).

With this performance, Eglys Cruz will have the opportunity at the London 2012 Olympic Games to improving the position she won in the 10m air rifle in Beijing, where obtained 11th place. (Prensa Latina)
