Ticket Sales for FIFA World Cup Skyrocketed  Pretoria, May 31. -Ticket sales for the 2010 FIFA World Cup opening in South Africa next June 11 have skyrocketed in the past 48 hours, and 97 percent of the seats has already been sold out, BUA News reports on Sunday.

Since Friday, May 28, a total of 100 000 tickets were sold and seats for 14 matches are no longer available, including the Final, the Semi-Finals and the 3 Group Games of "Bafana Bafana", the host team, the South African information service highlights.

South African fans came out in numbers to purchase the tickets that were put on sale to the general public on Friday, despite initial technical problems which affected all sales channels.

"We are very impressed by the enthusiasm shown today by all fans and especially those in South Africa towards the 2010 FIFA World Cup", FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke was quoted as saying.

"We are getting very close to a 97 percent average attendance, something which corresponds to the figures of Germany in 2006. We are very happy with the way fans have responded and we are sure that we will all enjoy a fantastic FIFA World Cup," he said. (Prensa Latina)
