Havana, Nov 8.- The Cuban men’s volleyball team is getting ready to fight for a gold medal at the classification pre-world tournament of the North, Central American and Caribbean Area (NORCECA) to be held in the Cuban western province of Pinar del Rio, from November 10 to 12.

 

Nicolas Vives, technical head coach of the team, said Tuesday that their goal is to classify for the 2018 World Championship and fight for the gold medal.

‘We will count on all the players, among them 7 now playing in Argentina, and on Miguel David Gutierrez, a player hired by Italian club Ravena,’ said the Cuban head coach to local sport magazine Jit.

The players now competing in Argentina are: Miguel Ángel López, Adrián Goide, Osniel Melgarejo, Dariel Albo, Liván Osoria and Javier Jiménez, this last one the most experienced player.

All of them will join those who are now training at the Cuban National Volleyball School.

Vives said that the most difficult rivals, must be Mexico and Puerto Rico. But in the match against Guatemala, they will see what changes are necessary, and make some adjustments.

Vives said that they hope to give a show to the Cuban people, which will see the world under 21 runner-ups and under-23 bronze medalists in action, and that they aspire to be the best team of the year 2017 in Cuba.

We had one good period for our volleyball, the technical group is very satisfied, the boys express many desires in the training,’ he added.

On November 10, there will be the matches Puerto Rico-México and Cuba-Guatemala; on the 11th, Puerto Rico-Guatemala and Cuba-México; and on November 12, México-Guatemala and Cuba-Puerto Rico.
