Puerto Rico: Free the Cuban 5

Puerto Rico: Free the Cuban 5San Juan, Jun 16. -The Puerto Rican Cuba Solidarity Committee has sent a letter to U.S. President Barack Obama demanding the release of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the U.S.

The letter states that Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez are serving unjust sentences.

The committee also denounced the double standard applied by the U.S. government, which refuses to recognize the injustice of the sentences imposed on the Five, "while, on the other side, it protects international terrorists such as Luis Posada Carriles."

Similar demands were made for Oscar Lopez Rivera, Avelino Gonzalez Claudio and Norberto Gonzalez Claudio, locked up "for fighting in accordance with the principles and natural right to decolonization and the liberation of their Puerto Rican homeland."

The message circulated on the occasion of ObamaâÖs visit to Puerto Rico on Tuesday.

"You, as the president of the United States, can return those patriots to their homelands," the letter states. (Prensa Latina)
