Cuba: First Million University Graduates
Havana, Jul 22. – Cuba''s first one million university graduates is an expression of the quality of its education system, Higher Education Minister Miguel Diaz-Canel said today.
What has been achieved is synonymous with the vitality, development and quality of education, Diaz-Canal said in concluding remarks at a meeting on the outcome of the 2009-2010 school year.
For the next school year, "we still have ideological challenges of quality and an economic reality that forces us to define elements of academic efficiency" Diaz-Canel said.
That means continuity, consolidation, improvement, responsibility and quality; the comprehensive training of teachers; and rejecting fraud, classes with no quality and processes without demand, he added.
"If we accomplish this, we will be providing political and economic awareness, a skilled workforce, culture and a revolutionary attitude," the minister told an audience of rectors of higher education institutions and other education leaders.
"We will be fighting for a university with more quality, efficiency, rationality and with more relevance, a university by and for the Revolution," he stressed.
Vice President José Ramón Fernández called on those present to encourage an awareness of producers among students, and the idea of work as an obligation for all.(Prensa Latina)
