Chavez Greets Brazil Mediation in Iranian Issue
Caracas, May 13. -Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez described as extremely important the proposal of his Brazilian peer Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to mediate in the conflict for the development of nuclear energy in Iran.
Speaking before business people and executives of foreign oil firms, Chavez said Wednesday that Lula will visit Tehran soon to meet with Iranian authorities and advance towards a solution to the dispute.
I consider Brazil's proposal extremely important, he said and added that despite the Western industrialized nations' accusations, neither Iran nor Venezuela are a threat to the rest of the world.
In this regard, he recalled there is no evidence that the Persian authorities are in the process of developing atomic weapons, as claimed from Washington and several European capitals.
Not long ago, we heard Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a speech in the United States, and he was right when he said that the only government in launching an atomic bomb against a defenceless people has been the US government, recalled Chavez.

Celebra Chávez propuesta mediadora brasileña para diferendo con Irán
Caracas, 12 may (PL) El presidente venezolano, Hugo Chávez, catalogó hoy de importantísima la propuesta de su par brasileño, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, para mediar en el conflicto por el desarrollo de energía atómica en Irán.
Al intervenir ante empresarios y directivos de empresas petroleras extranjeras, Chávez aseguró que Lula visitará pronto Teherán para entrevistarse con las autoridades de ese país y avanzar hacia una salida del diferendo.
Me parece importantísima la propuesta de Brasil, indicó el mandatario, para luego especificar que a pesar de las acusaciones de las naciones industrializadas de Occidente, ni Irán ni Venezuela son un peligro para el resto del mundo.
En ese sentido, recordó que no existen evidencias de que las autoridades persas estén en proceso de desarrollar armas atómicas, como aseguran desde Washington y varias capitales europeas.
Hace poco oímos a (el presidente iraní Mahmud) Ahmadineyad en un discurso en Estados Unidos, y dijo algo cierto, que el único gobierno en lanzar una bomba atómica contra un pueblo indefenso fue el norteamericano, aseveró Chávez. (Prensa Latina)
