Cuba Reaches Two Million Visitors Figure in Record Time

Cuba Reaches Two Million Visitors Figure in Record TimeHavana, Cuba, Aug 28.- The Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) reported that the country had arrived to the two million foreign visitors mark in record time, 20 days earlier than in 2011.

MINTUR spokespeople said in a press release that the figure represents an increase of 5.3 percent compared to the same period last year, thereby they are maintaining the goal of reaching 2.9 million foreign visitors in 2012.

Cuba has had 2 0r more million visitors for the last nine consecutive years and show a positive position in the international tourism scene by placing the country among the top vacation destinations in the Caribbean, the report reads.

Canada remains the largest emitting market, followed by England, France, Germany, Argentina, Russia and Mexico.

Other markets that increase their presence in the period are the Netherlands, Colombia, Chile, Switzerland and Peru.

Although the sun and beach tourism still ranks as the most important modality within the Cuban tourist industry, MINTUR is working to diversify the cultural and nature tourism and nautical activities, among others.

This increase is attributed to a correct strategy led by the Authentic Cuba campaign, which promotes Cuba through several countries around the world.

This initiative also aims to break the United States economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, which prevents American people to visit the island.(Radio Cadena Agramonte)
