Santa Maria Cay Hosts Cuba-Venezuela Summit

Santa Maria Cay, Cuba, Jul 25. – A natural paradise, UNESCOâ�Ös biosphere reserve, hosts from today a new Cuba-Venezuela Summit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

Ensenachos hotel is the headquarters of the meeting between the two nations, led in its ministerial segment by Cuban vice-president Ricardo Cabrisas and his Venezuelan counterpart Rafael Ramirez.

Cabrisas and Ramirez confirmed in their opening remarks the beginning of the work in five working groups, in accordance with the concepts of Marti and Bolivar established in the December 2004 agreement between the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro and President Hugo Chávez.

Located at about 217 miles east of Havana, in the north of the central province of Villa Clara, Santa Maria Cay is linked to the island by a railway line that leads to the best beaches, the diversity of fauna and marine beauty.

UNESCO declared Santa Maria Cay as a Biosphere Reserve, where there are over a dozen endemic species of the country, with flamingos and a large variety of molluscs, reptiles, mammals and birds.

The tropical paradise is complete with elements of the pre-Columbian culture in caves near the beaches, accompanied by beautiful underwater sceneries.(Prensa Latina)
