More Construction Materials for the Cuban People

Havana, Jul 29. – The Cuban Government has reaffirmed that the amount and quality of construction materials to the population will be increased. The announcement was made during a meeting of the Permanent Committee on Industry and Construction Works prior to the plenary of the seventh period of sessions of the National Assembly of the People´s Power to be held as of August 1st. During her speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Odalys Escandel admitted the need to overcome deficiencies in the work of that ministry regarding the sale of these materials.

"We are going to reorganize the distribution to meet as much as possible the people´s needs in the remodeling and construction of houses," she said.

She referred specifically to the sale of cement in bags and in bulk, as well as the sale of 1,200 tons of steel bars, which will be in Cuban pesos.

Escandel also referred to some progress made in the sale of construction materials, mainly in June, expected to be increased soon.

Deputies of this committee gave details about existing needs for construction materials in their territories and conveyed the population´s concern about the prices of these materials.(Prensa Latina)
