A government official said that combats, which he considered fierce, were chiefly staged in Helmand province.

Reports from Musa Qala district announced the death of at least two children, but no further details were provided.

Figures in the last 48 hours show that NATO air strikes have taken the lives of ten civilians in the northern part of the country.
