21 Countries Participate in Cuban Humor Biennial

Havana, Mar 19. -Around 200 works from 21 countries and 101 writers will compete in the 17th International Biennial for Graphic Humor Art, Cuba 2011, to be held March 27-29 in San Antonio de los Baños.

According to the organizing committee, Germany, Mexico, Cyprus, Greece and Brazil are the countries with the largest delegations.

Competition categories are general humor, political satire, humoristic cartoon strip, caricature and humoristic photography.

The program will also feature events in the Cuban capital, including a Colombian graphic humor exhibition, the symposium Points of View, and the exhibit Plan Jaba, by Cuban Adan Iglesias.

Aristides Hernandez (Ares), one of the humor's main exponents of Cuba, highlighted the group exhibit Consumo Gusto, designed as a crusade against consumerism.

For the first time, the biennale includes a "Tommy On Line" Award, as a tribute to the late Cuban cartoonist Tomas Rodriguez Zayas.

Another exhibit honors the 100th anniversary of Juan David, another great of the graphic humor world and a master caricaturist.

The jury this year is chaired by prestigious international artists, including like Fernando Pica (Colombia), Nani Mosquera( Colombia), Nerilion ( Mexico) and Antonio Mouriño 'Ñico' (Cuba).

The theme of the Biennial is "To Think and Draw for Tomorrow," with the aim of promoting anti-war messages and the release of the five Cuban antiterrorists imprisoned in the United States. (Prensa Latina)
