Cuba: Free the Five Now

Cuba: Free the Five Now Havana, Jan 27.  – Cuba will do everything possible for the release of Gerardo Hernandez, one of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the United States for the last 12 years, Parliament president Ricardo Alarcon stated Wednesday.

"Gerardo is an exemplary hero and the Cuban government will do everything it has to do to try to save him," Alarcon said Tuesday during remarks on the daily radio and television program Roundtable.

Referring to the habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Hernandez, who is serving a double life sentence, Alarcon said a number of U.S. news reports have tried to confuse the solidarity movement by saying this request was against Havana.

In his opinion, no court in that country will release the Cuban Five, the name by which Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez are known around the world.

Only a jury of millions of people can release them, Alarcon affirmed.

"Little by little, the case of the Cuban Five will become known, and the day that the U.S. people are familiar with half of this perverse situation, the (White House) will have a lot of explaining to do," he said.(Prensa Latina)
