Terrorist Posada Carriles Charged Only with Lying
Havana, Jan 7. -The trial of international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, charged only with lying, begins Monday in Texas, amid maneuvers by both defense and prosecutors to prevent his extradition to Venezuela.

Despite his long criminal record, Posada is not being charged with terrorism or murder. Instead, he is being charged with perjury and having obstructed an international terrorism investigation with false statements.
Lawyer Jose Pertierra, who represents Venezuela in its extradition request, is drawing attention to those and other details, because press reports are saying that the U.S. government will charge Posada Carriles with terrorism, which is completely false.
In an interview with Prensa Latina, Pertierra affirmed that many are the interests in Washington to prevent Posada Carriles from being tried for something serious or deported.
This is a case that has gone beyond the Department of Justice; it has reached the halls of power of Washington, the White House, the CIA, Pertierra said.
Posada illegally entered the United States in April 2005, two months after Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso pardoned him. She set him free five days before leaving office.
Posada Carriles and other terrorists were serving prison sentences for having plotted the assassination of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, during the Ibero-American Summit in 2000.
Pertierra said it cannot be forgotten that Posada Carriles is a CIA agent, as he and his lawyer have admitted, and which is corroborated by declassified documents and other sources.
"The case has been manipulated to avoid true justice in the proceedings of the murder of 73 people onboard a Cuban airliner in 1976, and also the murder of Fabio Di Celmo," the lawyer said.
Di Celmo was an Italian tourist killed in the bombing of a Havana hotel, part of a string of attacks in 1997.
Posada was the torturer of many people in Venezuela, and he trained death squads in Guatemala and El Salvador for many years.
He was the CIA man in Central America, and that is why "they are trying to protect him and not put him on trial," Pertierra said.

Terrorista Posada Carriles enjuiciado sólo por mentiroso

La Habana, 7 ene (PL) El juicio contra el terrorista internacional Luis Posada Carriles, solo acusado de mentiroso, deberá comenzar el lunes próximo en Texas, en medio de maniobras de la defensa y la fiscalía para evitar su extradición a Venezuela.
Lo cierto es que pese a su abultado expediente de hechos de sangre, la fiscalía no lo acusa de terrorismo o asesinato. Será enjuiciado por perjurio y por obstruir con sus falsedades una investigación sobre terrorismo internacional.
Sobre éstos y otros detalles llama la atención el abogado José Pertierra, ya que medios de prensa comienzan a decir que el gobierno estadounidense presentará cargos contra Posada Carriles por terrorismo, cuando en realidad no es así.
En entrevista con Prensa Latina, Pertierra, quien representa a Venezuela en la solicitud de extradición del criminal, asegura que hay muchos intereses en Washington para que Posada Carriles no sea enjuiciado por algo serio, ni deportado.
ó Es un caso que se ha manejado muy por encima del Departamento de Justicia, creo que es un caso que se ha manejado en los pasillos del poder de Washington, de la Casa Blanca, de la Agencia Central de Inteligencia (CIA) ó , precisó el letrado.
El criminal entró ilegalmente a Estados Unidos en abril de 2005, meses después de ser indultado por la presidenta de Panamá, Miraya Moscoso, quien lo puso en libertad cinco días antes de dejar su cargo.
Posada Carriles cumplía una sentencia junto a otros terroristas por fraguar un plan de atentado contra el líder de la Revolución cubana, Fidel Castro, durante la Cumbre Iberoamericana del año 2000.
En opinión de Pertierra, no se debe olvidar que Posada Carriles es un hombre de la CIA, reconocido por él mismo, por su abogado y por documentos desclasificados, entre otras fuentes.
