Forlan: Best LatAm Athlete

Havana, Dec 14. -Uruguayan national television ratified Uruguayan soccer player Diego Forlan as the best athlete of 2010 in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to a Prensa Latina poll.

Uruguayan TV did not hesitate to choose the soccer player, who played a decisive role in his team winning fourth place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Forlan was the top scorer, along with Thomas Muller of Germany, Wesley Sneijder of Holland, and David Villa of Spain.

The winner of the Cup's Golden Ball had 44 votes in the poll, with a wide advantage over Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi (15), and Cuban wrestler Mijain Lopez (8).

The traditional poll by Prensa Latina will close on Dec. 16, and the results will be announced the next day. (Prensa Latina)
