Medicine Students recalled in Santa Cruz del Sur

Medicine Students recalled in Santa Cruz del Sur Santa Cruz del Sur, Nov 29. –A tribute to the eight Medicine Students, assassinated by forces of the Havana Spanish Voluntary Body, on November 27th 1871, was carried out by students and workers from the Mixed School Asamblea de Santa Cruz, located at the Jagua Community.

Among the actions developed to recall this date it was carried out a special assembly, where it was also paid tribute to Teacher Manuel Ascunce Doménech, and the peasant Manuel Ascunce Doménech, both assassinated by the counterrevolutionaries under the command of the CIA, in order to stop the vertiginous development of a rising Revolution.

Likewise, students of the Jose Marti Young Pioneers Organization (OPJM), of this school, fulfilled with one of the 50 tasks of theirs Organization, aimed to visit historic centers and of a patrimonial interest in the territory, by attending to the Mausoleum of the Combatants massacred by henchmen of the tyranny, belonging to the Column 11 “Cándido González”, in the Ambush and Combat of Pino Tres in September 1958.

The moment was opportune to register the Manuel Ascunce Teaching Squad, action framed in the context of the Teacher’s Day, developed in the whole territory of Southern Camaguey, according to Reinier Morales Rondón. (Rolando Canaura Sánchez / Radio Santa Cruz)
