Raul Castro Presides Over May Day Parade in Cuba Havana, May 1. – President Raul Castro presided over today the main event for May Day in Cuba, a huge multicolor parade of hundreds of thousands of people along Paseo Avenue and the Revolution Square in Havana.

Since the dawning hours people dress in blue, white and red, the colors of the Cuban flag, gathered along Paseo Avenue for the

massive march in support of the achievements of the Revolution. The parade began at 08:00 local.

The first to parade in front of the Jose Marti Memorial at the Revolution Square were the professionals from the health sector in their white gowns and researchers and workers from the biotechnological industry and related sectors.

Besides the Havana event, marches and rallies are taking place also in the main public places in cities all around the Island.

According to official figures, more than 1,300 leaders and members of friendship groups from around the world travelled to the Island to participate together with Cubans in the May Day festivities.

They are from 34 countries and 159 trade union organizations and other solidarity movements. The biggest delegations come from Uruguay, France, Spain and the United States.(Prensa Latina)
