Cuba’s Varadero Aspires to Be World’s Best Beach by 2020

Varadero, Cuba, Aug 24.- Varadero, Cuba’s main beach resort, aspires to be the World’s Best Beach by 2020, the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) announced, while issuing a call to visitors and residents to cooperate in this objective.

 

‘Varadero is close to being the World’s Best Beach, and we count on you. We need you. Help us to maintain the cleanliness of the streets, green areas and our beautiful beach,’ the MINTUR text states.

Among the actions suggested are to place garbage in trash cans, plastic bags and containers; use parking areas for vehicles and never the coastal zone; and use the quthorized beach accesses such as walkways and trails.

This tourist resort was chosen as the world’s second best beach in the Travelers’ Choice 2019 Awards, posted on the TripAdvisor website. The US site bases its awards on user provided content.

Varadero is located on the Hicacos peninsula, on the north coast of western Matanzas province, about 140 kilometers east of Havana. It has more than 50 hotel facilities and more than 21,000 rooms. (Prensa Latina)
