Cuban Doctors to Work in Southernmost Tip of Nicaragua Managua, May 1st. – As of today, a mobile brigade of Cuban doctors will start working in the Rio San Juan department, announced Coordinator of the Council of Communication and Citizenry, Rosario Murillo.

According to Murillo, in the next three months, this solidarity brigade, members of the Operation Miracle, also known as Vision Now in the English speaking Caribbean, will offer free-eye surgery to 500 Nicaraguans living in that department, located some 300 km southeast of Managua.

Murillo said that Cuban Ambassador to Nicaragua, Eduardo Martinez Borbonet, will attend the opening ceremony of the mobile brigade, on the occasion of International Workersâ�Ö Day.

Also today, the free-eye surgery program is marking its fifth anniversary of permanent humanitarian work in Nicaragua, as part of the policy to restore citizensâ�Ö rights promoted by the government of President Daniel Ortega.

The travelling mode of this operation started in February this year with the goal to reach remote sites, and it also has several permanent locations in Nicaragua, being the most important of them that of the hospital in Ciudad Sandino, in Managua.

In remarks to Multinoticias program of TV Channel 4, Murillo said some 94,000 Nicaraguans have regained their sight through this initiative.(Prensa Latina)
