Fishermen work hard to increase sea cucumber capture

Fishermen work hard to increase sea cucumber captureSanta Cruz del Sur, Jun 4. – Santa Cruz del Sur is one of the three Cuban regions devoted to sea cucumber fishing, a highly demanded species in the international market, mainly in the Asian countries. There are three ships aimed to this task in the Algérico Lara Correa Fishery Industry, while in another ship part of its processing is done. The yearly wet production varies around 100 tons.

Some 20 men in the fishing area and three more in solid ground make up this working staff, which are in charge of all the processing of this sea species, from the very capture to the delivery for its commerce.

Even though their production is the highest one in the country, it does not meet the demands. Nevertheless, the workers of this fleet carry on with their daily work in order to continue to develop the necessary fishing practice. (Yanayma Rodríguez Molina / Radio Santa Cruz)
