Yanni García: The Santa Cruz del Sur angel of ballet

The festivities of the end of the year brought Yanni García, one of the two main dancers of the Camagüey Ballet to Santa Cruz del Sur, his hometown. He is the only Santa Cruz del Sur born person who has devoted to be a ballet dancer.Yanni made it to the ballet when he was ten, after taking his first steps at the dance interest’s club at the Holga Alonso Culture House in Santa Cruz del Sur, where María Argelia del Risco, his mother, used to work as art instructor. He enrolled in the Luis Casas Romero vocational Art  School, in Camagüey, where he studied eight years between elementary and medium level, and after that he entered the Camagüey Ballet as worker and dancer

“Ballet is my life, i love it since i was a child, it is part of my everyday life, part of my feelings, it is the biggest thing, and it drives my world. I have devoted 15 years of my life to it, more than the half of my life. Ballet has given many triumphs to me and it has allowed me to know places and living experiences that I never imagined”.

Being on of the two main dancers of the Camaguey Ballet is not only something to be proud of, it also represents a great challenge and commitment that he responsibly faces everyday, in a profession where effort and hard work are vitals so as to achieve the great results he exhibits nowadays.

He is used to leading roles, he has interpreted many performances, like: Albrecht en Giselle, Don José en Carmen, El cisne negro en El lago de los cisnes y Gerónimo en Las llamas de París,these are the ones who have left a landmark on him. The second act of El lago de los cisnes, Giselle, Coppelia, La Fille mal Gardée, le Grand Pas de Paquita, Carmen,  pas de deux, rosado del Cascanueces, Degas, Esmeralda, Satanella or El carnaval de Venecia, El Corsario; le Pas de Classic and Majísimo.

For this year that has just begun, other projects await for the virtuosity and talent of the Camaguey Ballet Company, where this Santa Cruz del Sur Youngman states he will dance there until he is physically able to it, later on he plans to start a new stage as instructor of new generations.
