Students contribute to energy savings in central Cuba

Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, Sep 27.- Students of the Jose Marti University of Sancti Spiritus and primary and secondary schools in this Cuban province are contributing to energy savings, given the current fuel shortages in the country.

Members of the Federation of University Students (FEU) are participating in so-called Energy Patrols with the aim of ensuring the proper use of electricity in workplaces and the residential sector.

In statements to the press, Rachel Garcia, president of the FEU at the university, explained students join these intitiatives to gain greater knowledge about saving energy.

Garcia stressed that university students from the province are adopting measures from each of their positions to support the call of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel to seek solutions to this energy situation.

Likewise, the Jose Marti Pioneers Organization in Sancti Spiritus activated the so-called Click Patrols, made up of students from fourth to ninth grade.

Members of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), the biggest mass organization in the country, are also participating in each neighborhood in what is considered a task for all.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) is holding neighbourhood debates to make families aware of the importance of making household savings.

During the last ten days, the province saved more than 500 megawatts/hour by adopting measures in response to the fuel situation, due to the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba. (Prensa Latina)
