EU interested in expanding cooperation with Cuba

Havana, Sep 11 .-After a long working day in Havana to look into expanding cooperation, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, was welcome by Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

 

The two high-ranking dignitaries discussed late on Monday the completion of the 2nd Cuba-EU Joint Council and the implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement.

They also talked about the good state of bilateral relations and about the hardening of the US blockade against Cuba, and its extraterritorial effects, the Presidency reported in a press handout.

The Diaz-Canel and Mogherini also addressed other issues of the international agenda.

The EU chief diplomat ratified in Havana the interest of the EU to deepen the ties of cooperation with the Antillean nation.

At a press conference, after the 2nd Cuba-EU Joint Council was held, the senior official recalled the bloc is the island’s first investor and business partner.

We have tripled our investment in Cuba in the last two years, going from 50 million euros to 140 million, she said.

As part of her working agenda, Mogherini held a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (Prensa Latina)
