Havana, Nov 23.- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba Rogelio Sierra expressed the rejection of this Caribbean nation to the sanctions of the European Union (EU) against Venezuela.

In statements to the press, the Cuban official reiterated the unconditional support and solidarity of the island with the people of the South American country and with the government led by President Nicolás Maduro.

According to Sierra, the coercive measures adopted by the EU Foreign Affairs Council against Venezuela is an interference in their internal affairs and do not contribute to the dialogue process promoted by the Government for the understanding and search for peace.

Such decisions, he said, are contrary to the principles of International Law and those of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, signed by the Heads of State and Government of the region in 2014, during the II Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

It is contradictory that the EU Foreign Affairs Council concludes that the only way to deal with the situation in Venezuela is through constructive dialogue and negotiation and, at the same time, it conditions them with sanctions, selective blacklists and limitations on international trade, pointed out the Cuban diplomat.
