Paris, Nov 8 .-Cuba was elected to join the UNESCO Executive Board for the period 2017-2021, in the elections held today at the 39th General Conference of that United Nations organization.

 

Sources of the Havana mission to UNESCO confirmed to Prensa Latina that Cuba is one of the six countries elected in the Latin American and Caribbean Group, along with Venezuela, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, and Grenada.

In the elections held today, 27 posts were disputed in the Executive Council, a body made up of a total of 58 member states.

The 39th UNESCO General Conference takes place from last week until next November 14, and the agenda also includes ratifying the French Audrey Azoulay as the next general director, after the end of the eight-year mandate of Irina Bokova.(Prensa Latina)
