[:es]Farm workers from Santa Cruz del Sur make efforts to increase production levels[:]

[:es]An important movement of farm workers is currently developed  in Santa Cruz del Sur, motivated by the layout of the Eleventh Congress of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP by its acronym in Spanish), that took place on May 17th, 2015 at the Palace of Conventions in Havana City.

Farm workers of this town are based on Rafael Santiesteban statements in the last national plenary session of ANAP, when he launched the call to work in greeting to three important events: the anniversaries of the trimph of the Cuban Revolution, the foundation of ANAP and Farm Workers  Congress in Arms.

Small farmers aim their efforts to increase production levels and to achieve their self-supply. At the same time they aspire to incorporate and sensitize leaders of both, Agriculture Cooperatives and Credit and Services ones, partners and family to be involved in the movement.

Another task carried out is the use of animal traction, they were called to do it by the Cuban vice president, José Ramón Machado Ventura at the same event.

Hurricane Irma rains slowed down land conditioning, seedtime and harvest here, in spite of this, there are important production levels of fruits, vegetables and grain. The results are about 143 percent, 115 and 79 respectively.

Essential contribution of farmers is the building of houses in Esmeralda, a municipality of Camagüey province also affected by Hurricane Irma. Members of six Agricultural Cooperatives and three Credit and Services ones are there offering help to damaged people. (Translated by Yaima Báez)[:]
