United Nations, Dec 9 .-Cuba’s permanent representative to the UN, Anayansi Rodríguez, said that ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean nation would be an action in favor of peace.

During her speech at the General Assembly, the ambassador also highlighted how the growing gap between rich and poor countries represents a great threat to stability, prosperity, and global security.

By its part, Cuba believes that education is the way to contribute to the promotion of a culture of peace, through the inclusion of the study of diverse cultures and civilizations, Rodríguez said.

Peace is a fundamental requirement for the promotion and protection of human rights, but to achieve that goal, state policies must focus on eliminating the threat of war, particularly nuclear war, she said.

In that sense, she said, Latin America and the Caribbean continue their commitment to remain a zone of peace, a resolution adopted by CELAC in January 2014.

‘In promoting and developing a culture of peace, it is necessary to condemn all acts, methods, and practices of terrorism, including state terrorism, and take measures to fight against this scourge.’

Phenomena such as intolerance and discrimination on ethnic, religious or racial grounds; in addition to threats and the use of force, still persist on the planet, Rodríguez stressed.(Prensa Latina)
