[:es]Cuba Defends Dialogue and Cooperation to Promote Human Rights[:]

The statement was made by Cuban Ambassador Pedro Luis Pedroso, when he spoke at the 38th ordinary session of the Human Rights Council, where he demanded that the principles of impartiality and objectivity prevail in the High Commissioner’s mandate, as established by the UN General Assembly.

The Cuban diplomat added that the Human Rights High Commissioner must do his work in accordance with the mandates assigned by the member States, including when evaluations on the human rights situation are made.

‘Respect for sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, the peoples’ right to self-determination and the settlement of conflicts diplomatically must be a priority,’ Pedroso noted.

He also called to increase efforts to prevent selectivity, double standards and politicization.

The Cuban ambassador also pointed out that ‘some countries must devote to facing constant human rights violations against migrants and refugees, and to dealing with the escalation in the discourse of hatred, racism and xenophobia, particularly among politicians, authorities and public figures.’

Pedroso condemned the use of human rights mechanisms to contribute to the hostile policy against Venezuela.

‘We repeat that our solidarity with Venezuela, with the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution, with the civic-military union of its people and with its president, Nicolas Maduro Moros, is invariable,’ the diplomat stressed.

Pedroso also demanded respect for the Nicaraguan people’s right to live without violence, and rejected the interference in the internal affairs of that Central American country. (Prensa Latina)
