Students in Camagüey to Commemorate 162nd Anniversary of Cuban National HeroCamagüey, Jan 21. – Inspired on Jose Marti's legacy, children and teenagers in Camagüey province have carried out several actions to commemorate the 162nd anniversary of the birth of the national hero of Cuba, José Martí on January 28th.

Miyannis Torres Rodríguez, head of the Jose Marti Young Pioneers' Organization (OPJM) in this province, said that a programme of activities named "Creciendo junto a Martí" is underway at present and it features workshops, contests, special morning meeting at schools, debates and overnight camp stays with the participation of junior students.

On Janauary 28th, children and teenagers will march in all municipalities to mark the big day of Marti’s birth. Later, they will participate on the Copa Pioneril which bears the name of the apostle of Cuba's independence, under the auspicies of the municipal office of the National Institute of Sport, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), Torres Rodríguez added.

As part of this packed programme of activities the award “28 de enero” will be presented to the most brilliant elementary students in Camaguey.
