Categoric No to US Blockade on Cuba at UN

Categoric No to US Blockade on Cuba at UNUnited Nations, Oct 30.- The UN General Assembly approved yesterday by 188 votes in favor, two against and three abstentions, out of a total of 193, a draft resolution demanding the end of the United States blockade on Cuba for the 22nd consecutive year.

According to the individual votes list, the United States and Israel voted against and Micronesia, Palau and Marshall islands, abstained.

The maximum forum of the United Nations urged to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washinton for over more than half a century and strengthened by 11 US administrations.

According to the report distributed by Cuba on the losses suffered over this period, they amount to one trillion 157 billion 327 million dollars.

At the Assembly, the document asking the White House to cease its sanctions was voted yes by the same number of states than last year and against by the U.S. and Israel, and three abstentions.

The resolution calls to the strict compliance with the principles of the UN charter as sovereignty and equality of the states, freedom of trade and navigation and non interference in internal affairs.

Countries denouncing the blockade stress its violations of international law, due to the unilateral and extraterritorial reach of its application, besides the negative impact on civil society.

Voting in the UN General Assembly started on November, 1992 in the 47th ordinary session.(Prensa Latina)
