Cuba, Mexico Wind up Inter-Parliamentary Meeting

Havana, May 4. – After two days of exchanges about bilateral issues, Cuba and Mexico concluded the 13th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting, whose results will be included in a final declaration.

The meeting began on Thursday with the participation of delegations from the People's Power National Assembly (Cuban Parliament) and the Mexican Senate. They debated issues such as relations of cooperation and friendship, energy resources and the update of Cuba's economic model.

In remarks to Prensa Latina, Jose Gonzalez, president of the Mexican legislative body, stated that the objective of this kind of event is to establish common working agendas to define the main issues of interest for both countries.

The senator highlighted the celebration of the meeting a few months before the end of the current Mexican House, as it will specify the topics that will guide the efforts to be made by the two representative bodies.

Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon noted at the opening session of the meeting the importance that the event was held at Havana's Mexico House, as an expression of historic and cultural ties of brotherhood between both States.

The forum will not only discuss bilateral relations, but also some aspects related to the global economy, climate change and its consequences, and regional integration, Alarcon noted.

The meeting takes place less than a month after Mexican President Felipe Calderon's official visit to Havana on April 11.(Prensa Latina)
