Syria Assures Iran It Will Seek to Rescue Kidnapped Engineers

Damascus; Dec 26. -Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moalla informed the government of Iran that the authorities will make every effort to ensure the rescue of Iranian engineers kidnapped by an armed terrorist group in Homs, Cham Press reported on Monday.That news agency states that al-Moalla telephoned his counterpart Ali-Akbar Salehi and said that efforts are being made to the rescue the engineers as soon as possible so taht they can join their relatives.

A group of eight engineers who assist in the thermoelectric plant Janda, in the central province of Homs, were kidnapped nearly two weeks ago when they went to work in a van, reported at the time the Ministry of Electricity.

Terrorist armed groups financed from abroad have lately focused their violent actions against economic targets and professionals such as doctors, technicians and teachers, who are kidnapped or murdered.

Yesterday it was announced that a doctor was shot to death in Harasta, a town about 20 kilometers from the capital.

Iran and Syria engage in increasing trade relations and carry out various programs of economic and technical cooperation, reaffirmed and recently expanded with the signing of new agreements and the ratification of a free trade agreement. (Prensa Latina)
