Over 50 Delegations to Participate in Summit in El Salvador

San Salvador, Dec 13. -Salvadoran Foreign Minister Hugo Martinez announced that over 50 delegations from several countries and international institutions will participate in the meeting on aid to Central America, following the damage caused by a tropical depression in October.

The summit was convened by President Mauricio Funes as pro tempore president of the Central American Integration System (SICA) after the devastating weather phenomenon.

Martinez told a news conference that at the summit, to be held on December 16, the report on the region's losses due to ten days of heavy rains in October will be presented.

The document was prepared with the assistance from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

Martinez added that participants in the summit will also learn about Central America's projects for rehabilitation and reconstruction under new paradigms, to prevent the similar damage during weather phenomena.

According to Martinez, the summit will be preceded on Wednesday by the Central American Meeting on Integral Risk Management and Adjustment to Climate Change, whose results will be presented to the SICA representatives.

On Friday evening, the regular meeting of SICA heads of State and Governments, in which Honduras will receive the pro tempore presidency of the mechanism, which will hold during the first half of 2012, will be held. (Prensa Latina)
