Palestinian Flag Flies at UNESCO

Paris, Dec 13. -The Palestinian flag flies as of Tuesday along those of all country members at the headquarter of the UN Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO).Palestine National Authority president Mahmoud Abbas, Foreign Minister Riad Maliki, and UNESCO General Director Irina Bokova presided over the traditional ceremony held each time a new member joins the institution.

The Palestinian National Anthem was also sung in the ceremony, held under persistent rain.

On October 31, the UNESCO General Conference approved on a majority vote the Arab country's entry as the State number 195 of the organization, despite U.S. pressures.

The membership became official on November 23, when Palestine signed the acceptance of the UNESCO's Constitution.

The Palestinian adhesion to this organization was described a historic fact and an act of justice towards that people. (Prensa Latina)
