Venezuela Has the Lowest Social Inequality in LatAmCaracas, Jul 26. -Venezuela registers the lowest percentage of social inequality in Latin America, with 0.38 percent, the National Statistics Institute (INE) has reported.INE's President Elias Eljuri told YVKE Mundial Radio that the figure has been corroborated by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, which is in charge of promoting socioeconomic development in the region.

Eljuri mentioned that extreme poverty dropped from 21 percent in 1999, when President Hugo Chavez assumed power, to the current 6.9 percent, and the indicator is likely to continue to decrease.

In the last twelve years, formal jobs rose from 46 to 57 percent; while informal jobs decreased from 53 to 42 percent, he added.

The INE president commented that this year inflation is expected to be between 23 and 25 percent, and the goal is to take it to one percent.

Eljuri finally said that one of the factors to fight inflation is to boost national production, to thus ensure supply and counteract speculation. (Prensa Latina)
